HMAS Canberra 30th Anniversary Reunion - 2011

The HMAS Canberra 30th Anniversary Reunion took place the Sunshine Coast 21-23 October 2011.

The occassion was a great success, the 4 planned events were well attended with100 people attended the Dinner Dance on Saturday night.

To following people worked hard to ensure the Reunion was a success:

Reunion Coordinator Lee Webster
Treasurer / Secretary Carol Webster
Dinner Dance Coordinator Sean Cox
Memorial Service Coordinator Phil McDonald
Naval Reserve and Cadet Liaison Luke Leather
RSL and Naval Association Liason Paul Cross – Mark Quigley
Memorabilia Kym Parry
Marketing  Lee Webster
Hook Rope Party  Paul Eckersley

A special thanks to Carol Webster, she put the hard yards in to make it a great event.

The staff at the Maroochy RSL did a wonderful job and they went above and beyond to help us enjoy our time .

The Naval Association Maroochy Waters and the RSL Maroochydore sub branch assisted us greatly.

I recieved these comments from Luke Leather:

Well done Bickies for arranging an awesome event. Go have a beer or ten mate. It was great to see some old mates. The highlight for me was Evans and McDonald doing their thing. Must be something about tall bastards. The comraderie was amazing whether you were commisioning crew or other. Can't wait for the next one. I think the fact that 51 % of people want to retain and even expand the affiliation with the Canberra/Shropshire lads should be followed through. Cudos also to the 80 odd people that fronted for the Canberra 1 commemoration. A moving moment indeed. I think the name Canberra is something that engenders pride and comraderie whether it be 1 or 2 or even the new 3. In light of Lizzie and Phil the Greek being here allow me to say one thing....War Canoe 02 "For Queen and Country"

Many Thanks to everyone who attended and made the Reunion it the success it was, I am looking forward to the next Reunion in Sydney 2014. I am hopeful that it will be under the HMAS Canberra Shropshire Asssociation.

Yours Aye,

Lee"Bickies" Webster
